Old tree spreading over the grounds at Thennal

Built by nature-lovers

We stay close to nature, and hold nature close to our hearts.

About us

Most of us are wildlife photographers, environmentalists, teachers and writers. At Thennal we have done everything we can to let you stay as close to nature as possible, from our rooms and location to the experiences we offer. Because we appreciate nature-lovers as much as we appreciate nature.

Our approach

Thank you for letting nature be

Thennal stays far away from commercialisation. We have roads only where there are no trees. We let every plant grow and every butterfly flutter by.

So while you are here, we kindly ask you not to disturb nature in any way.

Green policy

Five promises we keep to the forest.

  1. Water is not for sale

We provide purified drinking water across Thennal and keep plastic bottles at bay.

  2. No fancy campfires

Campfires are not promoted at Thennal, as part of our effort to reduce our carbon footprint.

  3. Waste becomes soil

Solid waste is treated and turned into organic manure with the Smart Bio Bin waste management system developed by Kerala Agricultural University.

  4. A tree for every guest

Your footprints can reduce carbon footprints. Every year we plant as many trees as we welcome visitors, through a social forestry programme.

  5. Supporting conservation

We support conservation activities and studies, because the welfare of wildlife and its habitat is key to the future of a hill station like Wayanad.
